Why does my horse appear to be full of electricity?
Everytime I touch her she either twitches/flinches (even does this if I'm just near her) or gives us both an electric shock - hows that work?!?
I'm really worried about her now because its really not like her to be so untouchable. Any ideas?

That's a strange one Spotti. Mind you my cat was giving me electric shocks yesterday.

She did lick a lightswitch the other day, but surely any electricity from then would have gone now? And I think there's a storm coming too, but unless I have a special horsey that can predict the weather, I can't see that doing much either! (although maybe its the static electrcity in the air that's doing it? Oh I dunno. The bad thing is that she now seems to associate me with the twitching and so won't even let me near her now ) Hmph, I think I need chocolate...

You know you have a very special ponio Are you wearing anything different (especially shoes) that could cause a positive charge to build up which would then earth when you touched Faith?

Bracken does this! We can't brush her at the moment cos we both get electric shocks. Has Faith got a really fluffy coat at the moment? Dunno what causes it but you can't half get a bat off them

I know she's special but fortelling the weather? Even thats a bit far fetched, even for her! I'm glad its not just us that get zapped Not particularly fluffy, no, because she's been rugged up since september/october time because of the horrid weather and because she was standing in her stable all day freezing her butt off. And yes, I have changed my shoes actually...I've worn them before though and never noticed any difference...will go back to my wellies later and see what happens...

Does it feel like static electricity?
I get it a lot with my cat, especially if I'm wearing a fleece. I go to stroke him and we both get zapped...

Sort of, and it doesn't half hurt!
I think the only thing I've really changed over since the weekend is my shoes...will go back to wellies and see if it still happens

get this shock from digit too, but it's only down to the fact his rug got polyester and nilon in it, i would say that must of us with get them from there horses if they wear a rug and if it not your horses it will be you wearing it!!!!

Yeah she does have a rug on, and it probably has polyester or nylon in it too...I did wonder if it was the rug...
Looks like we'll be staying away from Robinsons rugs and my muckerboots for a while then!

Right, been to see her just now and wore my wellies and guess what??? ...no shock! She's still very twitchy though around her withers, down her back and around her pelvis which indicates pain/muscle spasm to me. *sighs* Oh the joys of horses (I love her lots though and will never ever give in!)

Oh Spotti it's one thing after another for you and Faith isn't it. Really hope you can get this sorted. Big hugs hon
*passes another bar of choccie*
Personally I think Faith could do a far better job than the met office - they are just rubbish!!

Lol Scatty! I think the met office have it easy for forcasting sheffield's weather "today it will rain, rain, rain, ooh wait, nope, more rain!"
It would be cool if she actually could predict the weather though (it certainly wold help me out when choosing what rug to get out!)

*with her little clicky thing* "Today there will be showers in the north, with highs of 2degrees in some places..." - woop-de-flipping-doo! She's still weird twitchy and really doesn't want me touching her, not even her face now, so me thinks we need to get looked at...again

Hmm only thing I can put it into context to is my back pain.
I find if my back is having a bad day, if OH even touches my arm or head it causes me to tense up (not cos I don't want him to touch me LOL just a natural reaction when you're in pain) which in turn hurts my back more. This is more apparent when I am having muscle spasms and the muscles are already tight.
Now I can say to him - 'don't touch me because my back is really bad' but the only way for a horse to let us know is by moving away. So it may be a reaction to pain in one area rather than all over where she is twitchy if that makes sense?

I think she's feeling a bit worse for wear because she's not had a proper massage for about 4 days now because the first 2 days we both got electric shocked everytime we touched and then the following 2 she's been really touchy with me and won't let me near her (which makes giving her a massage particualrly difficult!). She still seems to love me though because we had a lovely nap earlier in the stable...me and her flat out on the floor, snoozing away in the lovely...wind! Some may call me bonkers for doing that and others may tell me to be more careful, but I knew exactly where all 4 of her feet were at all times, and provided I stay still, she is careful with her feet and doesn't stand on me She'll probably tell me off for sharing our secret snooze now, but it was wonderful! Complete shame that I couldn't touch her without her getting in a grump with me, but all the same, wonderful ;D

Oh, and I think the all over twitchy-ness is referred pain due to being tight around her pelvis and a bit tense through her back (due to lack of massage). Sometimes I can touch her in some places, but other times I can't get near her...I guess she's just being over-protective of her poorly back And quite right she is too!!! (I don't need a verbal language to understand my horse...we have a language all our own

Poor hairy ponio. Your not so secret anymore snooze sounds great. I hope you get to a point where you can give her a massage. It seems that was really helping her before.

Its funny how you never realise just how much you miss something until its gone... I'm thinking of a way to let her know I'm trying to help...me thinks carrots may be the first step...

**** I managed to lightly massage her shoulders this morning! ************ She actually came over to me and "asked" me to do it! She also kept swapping positions so I could massage both shoulders evenly, bless her. And people say horses are stupid!!!! PAH! Love my ponio

Nope they are definately not stupid! Sancy likes having her bum massaged - well scratched/rubbed/ mauled whatever! Problem is when she comes up to me she tends to walk straight past me and stops with her bum in my face!! I don't get to pet the front end!!
