Copied and pasted from the cob society - 'since when has bread been a cake? f**king northern idiots! may the COB live forever' ;D ;D ;D www.facebook.com/topic.php?uid=2218554124&topic=3306ETA:: www.cob-shop.co.uk/Cob is in the dictionary too!!!!!!!!!!!! From UrbanDictionary.com... COB Slang for a crusty bread roll used in the midlands, usually in Leicester, Derby and Nottingham. If one ever has the fortune of being around these parts, be sure to ask for a 'cheese and onion cob me duck' in the local 'Cob Shop'.

what the heck is a breadcake? Is it like a scone? or a gridle scone? or a tattie scone? Breadcakes...well there breadcakes...cut then in half and put something in middle if your brave enough and make a sarnie (ugghh). Sometimes known as teacakes in parts of Barnsley...but everyone knows proper teacakes have currents in! Someone else voted for breadcakes too (my moneys on Zara). I bet you other guys call 'pikelets' crumpets too ;D

This is amusing!
Sav, I'm from yorkshire and we call them breadcakes...hmm...(got proper confused when we went in Robinsons the other weekend and stoppped for a bit of lunch (its hungry work is shopping), and a chip butty (chips in a breadcake) was called a 'chip barm'.
What on earth is a barm?

Barm? Maybe someone cant spell? Ive never heard of that before, but its a butty round here too.

Yup, I've heard of barms too.
Stotties are a bit different - flatter and more solid, very yummy especially when filled with cheese & coleslaw.
They are often called teacakes here - but I agree, teacakes have currents in!
