Darcys mum persuaded me that I should take her to a local Hunter trial on the 22nd - not wishing to lose face of course I said yes!
She has been once ever round a xc and I have in the last 10 years been once when I took good old dependable max for a training session! Darcy is far from that - she is wild, wont go straight and fights everytime you try and take a hold! Her show name is not Stormy Tempest for nothing!!
Then I noticed there was another HT the week before so thought 'what the hell and entered it as well! eeek! as she needs a wee something to back her off I entered the 80cm for the first one and the 85cm for the second one so off we went!
arrived at the venue and she was really calm, tied up and stood while I did her boots and tacked her up - I was shaking like a leaf and utterly cacking even though it was only little it was very hilly and kept thinking she wont stop !
got on and it was a fair hack up to the start and she was so calm - then we got the start and it was dead stop and she stood staring and I could actually feel her shaking!! she was like "OMG JUMPS!!! BIG GIANT FIELDS OMG OMG OMG!!!"
cue dancing sideways and messing about but after about 45 minutes of settling her she was much better.
then we were off .... or rather we weren't! 3..2..1 and she just stood there shaking but after what felt like for ever but was only probably 10 seconds off we went - certainly not straight and as you can see the first jump was .... well squint perhaps
it's a bugger to sit to as she screws right round!
2nd jump was a ditch and the first 4 had stopped at it but Miss D does not do stopping!! basically that was us - we went round staedy as she has habit of getting right under jump so I was trying to get more of a rhythm
- finally we were over the last
WHAT A BUZZ!! I admit I actually cried as we finished - me hurtling towards 50 and fat as on my little 15.2 that last year could not even trot in a straight line was about to be sold and we bloody went clear! Not only that but in a class of 20 we were 4th as only 4 went clear!
This week - ah well - she knew what was coming.. she was so excited and this time it was basically all in a big field and she just took charge - i really struggled to hold her.
Over the first skinny managed to keep her straight but we ran past the next one as I just couldnt get her back in time.
After that she went a lot better and I think she will have learnt a lot from it - there was big Trakehner that most of the class stopped at but she flew it and a sunken road she popped thru!
coming out the sunken road
even over the last the witch is still fighting me!
glad it's all over
good job green suits her - 4th again ;D
So I am off to buy a Dr Bristol - the main issue is that she is incredibly sensetive in the poll - you cannot put her in anyhting that uses poll pressure. The physio has got us with her in a poll magnet which will hopefully help but she is just one of those mares that would pick a fight in an empty room!!
