Yesterday we had a ball. Was the day of the mini hunter trials across the road from me. Decided I'd have a go again this year - just the mini course (max 1ft 6!). After feeling incredibly sick beforehand we were off. Fell into a nice stride and Eddie carried me safely round the course not batting an eyelid at a thing. Came back grinning from ear to ear - slightly shaking but happy!
I let my friend take the ride of the open class later in the day (lovely having something on your doorstep, we were able to go home for a few hours in between classes!), max 2ft 6 but much more like 'proper' cross country fences. Just before her class as she was warming up disaster struck and the stirrup leather snapped - thank goodness hadn't happened during the class. A kind person lent us a pair and they were off. I watched, heart thumping as they breezed round the course like pro's (and equally proud my pony was competing against one - Nat Dixon was there training a young horse).
They made it look easy. And Eddie clearly enjoyed herself and didn't hesitate at anything.
Sadly they didn't get placed (though was close, they were only 1.5 seconds slower than 4th place in the timed section) but was so proud of them both - my friend has been through a rough time and suffers attacks of nerves like me so to see her enjoying jumping was fab. And to watch my little hairy pony go, well all I can say is I think I know what a mum feels like watching their childs first school play!
No photos yet - I took my camera but was too nervous to take pics! There are some great pro shots, will put up the link when they're online.
