The teenager has been bored without any complets to do so yesterday she had a go at a SJ at her club. Her trainer entered her and Jana for the Im and 1m15. In the bigger class it was going swimmingly. She was clear until the last but one (the only one to go clear as it happened) but then she made a bad mistake and tried a shortcut that was just too tight. Jana tripped over her feet and the teenager went down and under. She doesn't remember anything between falling and ... going into the next class, which was the 'small' 1m. She did an exemplary round and came third. She called me at about 7pm to fetch her and only then confessed she was feeling very sick and dizzy so off to A&E she went. Yes, she is concussed. She is feeling better today however, so we won't have to go back for the brain scan (to see if they can find one boom booom ). And I've just ordered her a new helmet.

well done to the teenager, but most teenagers protect their brains until in they hit their twenties by simply not engaging them... LOL!
Did she insist on a helmet with bling if she is now showjumping?

You are right Fi .... and just wait until it's your turn to suffer a teenage girl in the house har har Yup, she wanted a GPA (HUNDREDS of quid) but settled for a CSO from Equestrian Clearance at a very reasonable £35 as she's not really on the SJ circuit. Frankly, I think the Troxels we both have are superior helmets but she says it's 'ugly'. FGS

Sorry to hear about the concussion but very impressed at the 1m15- that's a sizeable jump (ie enormous). In my opinion there is a very big leap from the 1m to the 1m 15. You really need a good horse and rider to do the 1m15 so (concussion notwithstanding) you must be really proud of her. 35 euro for a hat! That is good value.

Sorry Rac, I missed this. She is doing really well isnt she? At least at that age they bounce! Does she wear a body protector for jumping? I was discussing this the other day with a rider of a similar age and it simply wasnt done when we were teenagers/young riders but she had a really nasty accident and broke her back, totally destroyed her career as she was a sponsored event rider who had represented GB. I think at the time she was wearing one but then a bit of foam and a belt was classed as a body protector!!! I still dont wear one often however wouldnt hear of my little boy riding without!

sorry rac i missed this too. Congrats to the teenager.
Like Brig, i don't wear a body protector either, know i should but still don't, silly really i guess...we went across country and everything when i was a kid minus one, hardly anyone had/wore one and like brig says the early ones weren't up to much. Wore one in my later teens a bit as i had asperations to event (and whilst backing murph) but thats about it.

She wasn't wearing one (and got it in the neck from me afterwards - but too late of course). She won't wear her big XC BP but will compromise and borrow my 'lobster back' one, which is more discreet, from now on. And she'll be doing a lot more SJ as she has decided to qualify Jana in SZJ as well as complet since she'll be at the championnats anyway.
There is a great actionsh of Jana going down that I'll try to post.

luckily Cal always wears a hat. I have know doubt that there will be a stroppy faze but as she is too young to drive to the horses I feel I still have some power. I did suggest a back protector to a hunt ball ride but got THE LOOK. I do remember a time and a fall when I must have hacked back after, along a main road and had no knowledge of doing so. Must have been on automatic pilot. Kids are wonderful if sometimes scarey if yours and on horseback. But then again when you are young you are imortal!
