I seem to be permanently 10-20 minutes late at the moment. No matter how hard I try to be organised....
Took Brave to our first dressage competition in months today and as usual was running late which meant by the time I arrived I had 10 minutes to register, get tacked up, changed and warmed up before I had to go in to ride the test which meant I jumped on did one lap of the warm up arena in trot and canter on each rein and then in....
Good points I remembered the test, and he was going forward bad bits he was stiff, lacked bend, set through the neck and spooking at various bits and pieces, his spooks are lot milder now so his biggest spook looked like he decided to motorbike around a corner in canter looking out of the arena instead of where he was going. but we still got mostly 6's and sevens for the test and finished with a score of 60.6%.
then had over an hour until my next test which was a qualifier and four horses in the class were also in the affiliated novice class so they were after the qualifier place and the prize money (£20 for first place down to £10 for 3rd) Brave by this time was soft and listening and we finished 7th out of 17 with 66.6% 1st place got 71% so we were really not far off and was one of Kirsty Aird's horses, Kirsty is always in the Scottish press and generally cleans up at the dressage.
I lost marks in both tests on the give and re-take of the reins second time the judge commented that you REALLY (underlined) need to show give in the rein. Now in both test I brought my hands forward and there was a loop in the reins. I honestly don't know what I am therefore meant to do short of sticking my fingers in his ears, so any suggestions as to what I am doing wrong gratefully received.
But all in all a grand day out and whilst no rosettes not bad for our 1st competition in 9 months
