Had a fab lesson today - Brave was really forward goign and for once I had to think about slowing him down rather than getting after him!
we did loads of lateral work and figured out on one rein I am blocking him so I need to work on my position and when I get it right so does he - funny that!
Also did loads of canter work and started to work on extending to medium canter and back to working canter, he is brilliant on one rein but finds it harder on the other, still lots of work to do on the downwards transition from medium canter to working canter as he had a tendency to come back to trot, but it was the first time we tried this exercise today so its not going to be perfect.

Sounds good, I miss my lessons. I toy with the idea of going to the local school just to ride again in a lesson would be nice. Roll on summer.

I love my lessons and would be totally lost with out them. I really enjoy learining new things and how I am affecting the horse, intentionally or not. I guess another reason is that it is one of my 2 opportunities to ride in the week.

Isnt it lovely when they carry you instead of feeling like you are carrying them? I really like the progression in the canter paces- I think the horses enjoy the chance to stretch also instead of having to bobble along, can only help your jumping between fences Fi as he will learn to stretch to make a stride etc. If he finds canter more difficult on one particular rein then do a little extra counter canter on that side so he kind of appreciates the difference, it will help him engage his hocks so balance better for the slower transition.
