I know I'm lucky as we can now get out and about again but boy, do I notice the lay-off!
Paco was a swine to load yesterday, going up and over despite the magic halter. I could have stopped him but the lunge line just ran through my hands, I could not get a grip and thank god I was wearing gloves. Anyway, he shocked himself and was so taken aback when I asked him to load immediately afterwards that he gave in.
Got to the club and it was just me and Mrs Wealthy plus the Boy Champion. But I just couldn't ride! It felt like my legs had been surgically removed and replaced with lumps of jelly, especially my left leg. Poor Paco was trying very hard but he wasn't getting the help from me that he needed and I was getting pretty annoyed with mysef, never pretty and I'm ashamed to say that I got cross with him when it wasn't really his fault. We were working on small circles with the bum in and he really struggled. And my sitting trot was hard work - Paco is too choppy to be comfortable at the best of times.
I also felt our trainer wasn't giving us her best attention, she was constantly being talked to or on the phone and at one point I stopped as I felt it was unfair to ask Paco to do the same hard exercise for what felt like hours. I let him stretch down and boy, he was grateful. The the trainer eventually saw and let the other two relax for a moment too.
Paco then made me feel even more lousy by loading very nicely for the way home. Today I have very sore muscles!
I guess we all have lessons when we feel like the worst novice ever?
