It's so nice to be home and picking up the reins again, in every sense ;D
I had a great lesson today which made me smile all the time. P was an angel to load (he thought it was another practice session and looked quite surprised when I closed it all up ...... )
P was really on form but not naughty and we worked on ... oh crumbs I've no idea what it is in English but bum-in circles (hanche en dedans) and some canter transitions, walk to canter. P was an absolute star, he really tried hard and his left lead was terrific ;D
I was a bit miffed that one of the ladies I have lessons with wasted a good 10 minutes of our 40 minute lesson whining to the YO that her horse had not been shod since August. She is potty. And why has she left it 'five months' to do something about it? In fact, I looked at its feet and I'd say it was about 9-10 weeks. Since the blooming thing is navicular you'd think she'd keep tabs herself but she is a bit of a novice who rides her daughter's old competition horse. It's lost a lot of condition recently and had a bout of ringworm and after DB'c ordeal I started to think think it might have early Cushings .....
Afterwards, poor old P was sweating up a storm (it was very warm) so I asked the other ladies if they'd like to join me in a short walk-out to cool the horses down. Many lame excuses later one of them admitted she was scared of her horse outside. Oh well. The two of them didn't stop chatting the whole time so perhaps it's better that I just do my own thing. At least I did a proper warm-up while they were gassing.
So, before going out, I walked P around the arena a bit and came alongside the sprinkler jet in the arena alongside just as it switched on (it is that dry here). It made the most enormous swoosh and hiss and scared P out of his tiny mind. He just bolted! And there was I, buckle end, minus stirrups, dozing in the sun ....... Someone was looking after me though as I was so relaxed I just stayed on! Phew. But it was a close thing ....
P, having realised that I was loading for real, did not want to get in for the journey home. He tried to chuck his weight around .... but found that he couldn't! Bless that Be Nice!!!!!!!
rosé anyone?
