I'm thinking of buying one for Paco as he's getting very uppity and loading can still be a nightmare. I'm sure we've discussed them before but I can't find the thread and would like some feedback before I shell out quite a bit of cash.

we sell them at work and although we dont sell that many the people that buy them sing their praises and say that they are the best thing since sliced bread and they wouldnt go back to a normal headcollar etc etc etc!

I have one I use for Dexter when he forgets his manners - and for loading Chompy. When they pull it automatically tightens in the same manner as a Dr cooks i.e. in a cross under the jaw, when they stop pulling it releases the pressure. I only use it for a short time until the manners are remembered and as soon as it goes on they instantly behave as they know its uncomfortable when they pull be it backwards forwards or sideways.
Those who don't like them say the brass knobs around the headpiece are cruel - however they are just rounded knobs and I would far rather instil manners than be run over or barged through by half a tonne of horse.
I also have one that is cob sized that I dont use and if that would fit paco I am happy to send it to you to try.

I've heard good things about them and if Fi can send you 1 thats great however i think they are pricey and i find that a good quality rope control halter is just as good and much cheaper. I recently got an excellent "professional choice" one with a long lead attached for £13 x

I admit that P is less of a b*stard in a rope halter but he can still be a real pain and I find I have to keep retying the rope if he pulls a lot, it seems to slip loose, no matter how hard I tie it. He responds so well to the Dr Cooks that I think a headcollar that applies the same pressure might just work. Anyway, we've been practising loading quite a lot and he's been angelic - I'll probably be able to fool him into loading easily once because he'll think it's just the 'carrrot game', then he'll suss it again ...... Looking forward to trying the Be Nice ....

can you not use your Dr Cooks as a headcollar with the leadrop on both rein hoops?

It has occurred to me Ceej but I'd be stuffed if he broke it. He is capable of some pretty beastly stuff when loading. I'd rather he broke a halter!
