yesterday when we had our xmas hack the horses were colled then let back our, when we fetched in we noticed that one of the horses had erticaria type lumps down the areas the girth was on the clipped part only, he has a trace clip. its one solid raised puffy lump the width of girth all way around the clip where he swaeted. He was allowed to dry and ill check this am what hes like but looke like the type of lumps i get when nickel touches my skin which doctors call erticaria. Any ideas? he has one of the thorowgood elastic ended girths. annax

Sounds like a reaction, Pete had a couple of lumps in his girth area in the summer, so I used a sheepskin girth sleeve for a few weeks.

Sounds like a fluid lump which is like the first warning of a gall, its caused by pressure building up but not yet enough to cause a rub. Be careful and use a sleeve, it should go on its own but indicates something is not right/comfortable. Horses that have their saddle area clipped right out often get them as the hair that normally provides protection is gone- they do go down but if extra padding is not used the skin can thicken and go scaley.
