went to open the field gate this morning (in the dark) before putting the horses out and halfway across the yard(on a slope my left leg went one way and my right another, after only regaining my footing after my hands were on the floor I found myself stood on the middle of an 8 foot patch of sheet ice!
I slithered my way to grass (on the field side) before heading to a narrower patch of ice to pick my way back to the stables.
turned the horses out via another gateway, but one further away from the stables, winter well and truly arrived now

We had our first hard frost last night - it was minus 2.5 at 7am this morning, my car needed some serious scraping and I ahd to break a thin layer of ice on trough. Felt guilty too as had only put boys middle weight standard rugs on...they have slightly heavier neck rugs tonight (and it'll probably end up not being so cold!)
