I posted a thread a little while ago about willows scabby lumps - at the time i didnt think it could be ringworm as the main symptom was lumps. However, although the area I clipped (bib clipped) seemed better - the lumps were going down, he has continued to itch so today I clipped him out. OMG poc marked he is - I feel terrible but didnt realise. He is covered in very itchy scabs and when they fall out they leave a roundish bald spot - fairly on par with ringworm - never seen it before but googled it... L will NOT accept that whatever willow has came from M originally despite the fact he has never had this before and she has. L is adamend that M simply had a reaction to lying down in buttercups. Tosh. L hibiscrubbed her and it went away (although i think it can usually go away on its own) So do i get the vet or do I treat myself - from what i read they use an anti fungal scrub (does anyone know if hibiscrub will do it?) thats what I ahve used tonight. Urgh. Poor boy waht do people think of the photos?

I have bought some Imavoral which I have read is meant to be great. I feel rubbish - guilty and a bit leperish! poor wils.
M isnt showing any scabs at the moment ( i have read that it comes and goes and often goes in 6 weeks but lays dormant so she may not be having an outbreak at the mo - so I guess I dont treat her....)

Don't feel guilty - under all that fluff must have been hard to find anything. The main thing is you're on top of it now. The main thing is getting rid of it before LuLu arrives - and it might be wise to keep willow seperate from M until its gone - plus the usuals, don't share grooming kit, buckets etc. As you're a pretty 'closed herd' it should work it's course fairly quickly. I don't know about re-infection though - can they re-catch it? I'm not sure - maybe ask your vet

Im not sure - I have read that horses carry it most of the time but develop an immunity to the particular type at a yard (hence why new horses at a livery tend to get it) and also horses can have a fare when they have been through stressful times (which Willow has, losing harry and then having a pony and then M come in) I think its probably important to make sure you get rid of it first time to make sure.
Now I have done lots of research I will go up tomorrow and separate them, get willows scabs off and treat him (hibbiscrubbed him today but didn't pick scabs off) and I have some stuff I can lather on that I got for his rainscald until the imavoral arrives. yes it has to be gone before Lulu arrives flippin heck.

I thought it might be ringworm......
Paco got it once from a new horse at the old club who was put in with him (grrrr). I only found one spot on him but washed him very carefully in anti-fungal stuff all over, plus the suspect new horse - particularly where there were scabs, but then all over. I didn't call the vet and I don't think you need to, unless your treatment has no effect.
Since it is very contagious, best to keep Lulu separate for a while.

Really important to deep clean your yard- everything from tack to brushes to fences etc etc. Ringworm can infect a yard as it infects a horse. bit of scrubbing required unfortunately!!

yes i have already done most of my rugs in virkon and am spraying everything I see with it. Before Lulu arrives I will get rid of all bedding (very annoying as I just spent a fortune on all the new shavings) and everything will get a proper deep scrub. What a ball ache! I dont mind as long as it goes away.
Willow had his second Imavoral bath this morning and twice a day I take any scabs off and lather every lump and scabby bit with anti-fungal stuff. Im not sure I can say its getting better yet though. I gues it takes time? What is dont understand is the lumps he gets before the scabs - not sure they are normal?
