i going to have a new riding jacket for xmas and am wondering what people suggest. i dont do the bomber styles as im tall and they just sit around my waist leaving my back cold. really want a good length one that has the vents behind for the saddle, say one that fits to the lower part of my bottom. must be warm as i am outside all day and get so so cold lol. oh and not to expnsive say £100 but if people know of a great more expensive one please dont hold back. annax

r.e. style i agree with you but i have a longish coat that covers my bum and then when i ride its quite annoying because you end up sitting on it in rising trot and pulling it into your neck.
i have two coats for riding at the moment - a lightweight horseware jacket and a thicker Dublin coat for the winter which ive had for a few years, its the one thats quite annoying to ride in though.
im looking a decent warm, waterproof coat for everyday wear actually - i was thinking of looking in the outdoor/camping type shops as they might sell better coats than the equine side where you just pay for the name!

I have a Joules one that leaks, a hi viz one that leaks and a gorgeous padded warm one that is not waterproof! Not much help! I like the Musto coats and wax cotton ones. Depends how much rain you plan to ride in!

I have a vast selection - my mountain horse one is quite long (not bomber style) with an elastic drawstring at the waist to prevent drafts - now been washed one too many times to remain truly waterproof though also I love my shires one - its quilted inside and lovely and warm, vented at the back to allow for the saddle but it is not as long as the MH one. this was me riding in the snow last year in the shires one - toasty warm and yes I was 6 months pregnant at the time, but the jacket hid it well

I have a Dublin one that has an inner jacket you can take out and take the sleeves off to make a gilet. It does me all year round and is really nice and warm in the winter. It's done me 2 or 3 years now.

They are cheap and cheerful but I love my Dublin Empress. Very warm, waterproof, lots of pockets and the vent/two way zip etc you need for riding. The price, for me, was a big bonus too! Depends if you want more functionable or more designer I guess.

Luna Riders high viz jacket - brilliant, not warm but you can layer underneath. Not the womens version - which is just too short for rainy rides. I bought a couple of sizes bigger than I need so it covers my legs to the knees and they are very very cheap. www.thesaddleryshop.co.uk/P/Unisex_Reflective_Blouson-(237).aspxThese are the best riding coats I have ever had, loads of pockets and they do last and wash in machine nicely. They have vents and sit nicely over the saddle. My last one lasted two tough winters - my riding clothes are not pampered. Because they are breathable they are fine to wear autumn and spring too - and most of British summer.

I have only good things to say about Mountain Horse jackets except they are not cheap. I liked My Equitheme warm jacket to bits - it is now falling to bits quite literally and therefore no longer waterproof.
Like Jane, I buy bigger than I need - I hate wet cold thighs and when sleeves ride up.
