watch the news if you ahvent seen it already - all those dolphins Froe creek where it happened is a few miles from my mum and dad and is part of my dads patch (he is a National Trust Warden) and it is home to me (where I grew up). Poor Dad has been dealing with the dolphins all day. Shame its on the telly for such a sad reason but its a beautiful place - where my heart is

I head it on the radio. It's so sad. I never meet a dolphin untill we went swiming with them in cuba. They are so powerful yet incredibly gentle and sensitive. What made them go up the creek in the first place?

so sad it will be interesting to see what they think was the cause.
must be so hard on those professionals trying to do their jobs and having reporters and members of the public getting in their way when they are wanting to do their jobs.

poor things must have been so frightened. I am afraid I would have told those so called helpful people where to go, its like the gawpers at RTCs I get so annoyed with them.

Hugs for your dad Ceej.. I cried when I saw those poor dolphins, they are so gentle and trusting. I hope the main pod can be saved. I did hear that they may have been confused by a ships sonar. Do you know anything yet ?

no, they are going to do some post-mortems today I think to see if there are any explanations..cnt imagine how that will help but maybe they are looking for something they cant say yet?
A few theorys are flying about - sonar from a ship (Falmouth is pretty close), chased in by boats (not very likely I think..most water users doen here are pretty respectful, mind you get a few emmets in speed boats who knows), or maybe some inexperienced youngsters followed some fish in? The creek they are talking about is very silted with a deep channel up the middle and flat banks either side...it would be easy to stray out of the channel and get stuck on the mud as the tide went out... maybe the post mortems with help with the age and if they are all young they can put it down to tempting fish and inexperience? I hope so...would hate it to be mans fault...

I think the fish theory is going out the window...I think they ahve covered it a bit on the news but Mum said on the day the navy communication ship was at the edge of the estury, (guessing they have sonar etc) on the day it happened
Dolphins were stranded at Place, and falmouth, and up the helfod river....basically in a fan away from the navy ship as if they were trying to get away from it....most of them were in froe creek as thats where the main Pod was....
I wonder if the truth will out?
Now, just to cover myself (!) I am NOT saying that the ship was defo the cause but it looks odd on a map....

I belive they have said there wasn't any 'warship activity' on that day, but not sure the communication ship is classed as a warship...
Now for the science...(what advert is that on?) Apparently its spinny roundy satellite type doofers were spinning round on the day and it has lots of them!
It is unlikely that so many dolphins would chase fish up a creek like that - if they were prone to doing that it would appen more often! They are so clever.

yes but helicopters aren't 'warships', and nor is an auxillary communications ship - they are very clever....there was military action going on...lots of people recon maybe subs etc...but no 'warships'
Does your swede in dunnit.
