Rockefeller was 40 when he was put to sleep.
Make sure there is loads of water for them to drink at all times...... Rock drank like you wouldn't believe, but as long as it was oming out the other end..... and believe me it did, he could pee for Britain.
Best kept out 24/7, plenty of hay, quality food but low calorie to prevent the lami.
Best Wishes to your friend xxx

They do need plenty of water, and clipping regularly to help remove the hair as their shedding is faulty. A little mare I had years ago as a three year old showed early signs as she tended to hang on to her coat a bit longer than the others. she was diagnosed at eighteen but it was in the days when they coudlnt treat it so she was PTS. Better now they know how to manage it so life expectancy is a good as any horse as long as the dreaded lami is kept under control.

As above - each case is different though and symptoms are different. lamininitis is by far the worst symptom - but I do recommend trying the agnus Castus (Chaste Berry) see my post about rip of herbals and get it from the shop on ebay! Its not expensive.
If the symptoms are mainly water intake and hairy coat then its very managable. The hardest thing your friend may find is keeping weight on, particualrly if he does get lami later x
