Well Eddie had her first showjumping comp last night. She was brilliant. A did the 55cm accumulator first and then the 65cm. She had one unfortunate knock down in the accumulator but did manage the joker but nearly everyone else went clear so no prizes. Then in the 65cm she knocked down exactly the same fence again! And it was the smallest fence there - don't think she paid enough attention to it! So we didn't hang around as we'd already been there 2 hours. It was a fab evening though despite no rosettes and Eddie kept her cool and A rode her really nicely. I was quite disappointed with the riding going on - kids who were riding and jumping in the warm up when we arrived and still going when we left, never getting off. Pulling the mouth whilst smacking with the stick Oh dear I'm getting old! But other than that we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Some pics - In the warm up And we're of.... Big smiles

Aw great pics scatty!! When im at the friday night jumping at the RS im there for at least 3 hours! Most of which involves hanging about and then 5 mins riding!
I think you see that kind of thing in warm up arenas everywhere unfortunately - all they can think about is 'jump, jump, jump'. I dont see any problem if the pony is fit enough and they give it a break and make sure to spend some time walking around. (At the RS they would do maybe 3 or 4 classes at most but they only really are ridden when in the ring and in the warm up before the class and the rest of the time they stand at the side or walk around the car park if its chilly.) But its when they make an unfit pony jump in like 3 classes is what gets me or any pony when they canter and jump endlessly around the warm up kicking and smacking and the pony is tired.
Still, some great pics! Whens the next outing?

Eddie's looking very trim - how'd you do it? Lots of riding? We somehow seem to have ground to a halt with our fitness regime...probably got something to do with Faith having a poorly back for a few weeks and then a pulse in her feet for a time too . Horses hey? You try and help them and they do all they can to stop you!! . Eddie and A are looking great in the pics .

Yep I try and ride at least 5 days a week, use the hill in my field I’m hoping that a bit of jumping will tone her up a little more and tighten her tummy muscles. We might be going to another one next Thursday, failing that we’re going to a show on 14th August so A might do a class there. She’s going to go a little bigger next time as she respects the fences more – she measured the jump from our practice run and it was 2ft 9!

Yeah FL we've done one this year and got another in August and September. For me it's just transport - theres nothing hackable so I have to cadge lifts where I can. Thankfully I have two lovely peeps with boxes who take me places when they can.

She's clearing them very well and looks like she's loving it. Well done to all three of you. Have you decided not to jump at all? I know some people just don't like it and others (like myself) are trying to get back into it! My confidence got a few shatterings a few years back and Im trying (very ineptly I may add) to get back into it. I notice my balance isn't what it used to be but I suppose this is what practise is for! Sorry, don't mean to hijack your thread, I really love the photos. She looks very happy and, as others have said, very trim

Sadly I've come to realise that my confidence jumping is just caput. I can cope with something up to about 45 cm but as soon as it gets any higher even looking at it makes me feel nervous (and 45 cm is barely more than a pole off the floor!) And watching A jump the other night I had no desire to have a go myself. I am loving my dressage so will stick with what I enjoy. But it is nice for Ed to have a bit of fun and do something different and A's really into her jumping but has no suitable horse at the moment so works out well all round Who knows, maybe one day but right now I'm happy keeping all 4 feet on the ground.

Just enjoy what you do, don't beat yourself up about what you don't do. Seems like you have the perfect solution at the moment anyway. I was watching the show jumping yesterday and the strain those horses go through, I think it's wise to jump them as an occasional option rather than all the time. I would love to see Pete compete again, maybe I will find an A with a lorry!
