Went showjumping last night at 'new' RS and i entered for the 45cm and 65cm - the class heights were 25cm, 45cm, 65cm and 85cm. Thought that 85cm might be pushing it a bit but may give it a go at some point lol - it did look pretty substantial when i was watching them put the jumps up.
After walking the course and trying to plan my turns (this is pointless really because it all goes out of my head when im actually in the arena, im just concentrating on getting over the jumps lol!)
There were so many kiddies on ponies doing the 25cm class (which was 3 poles stacked in a triangular shape on the sand.) so it took quite a while to get through them. I really do hate the hanging around!
Anyway, went and got my horse out of the stable and mounted up and took a few pics - I chose the same horse that I went on the hack on. 16.3hh dark bay gelding! There was a short time for a warm up before the 45cm - i didnt worry too much about not giving him a good warm up (all i got done was a few minutes of trotting before the class started) because the jumps were so small they were barely off the ground and so it was basically like cantering round over poles on the floor - so the class was my warm up really lol!
I was surprised that the jumps were so small - all were very tiny crosspoles (theres a vid) - but luckily my big horsey kindly popped each jump instead of being lazy and trotting or cantering over it. Despite the jumps being miniscule, all was not lost as i thought it would be good for practicing my rhythm and approaches etc before the real stuff hehe! ;D
Last summer, the 45cm class included spreads etc and it ended up that this summer there was a massive step up to the 65 which some people mentioned to me were more like 70cm at least.
Enough of my waffle and onto the important stuff! Got a double clear in the 45cm - woop - but he was a bit keen and spent most of the two rounds trying to hold him back and saying whoa a lot - at least i was breathing haha! Every time i went to shorten my reins in trot he began to canter and he seemed to get faster as the course went on so i was always trying to slow him down. However, he was a good boy and didnt do anything silly and just enjoyed himself!
Then waited around for ages until the prizegiving - got a nice rosette and a bag of winegums! yay!
Then the 65cm - i wasnt too scared about the size of it tbh which i think is an achievement considering my horse was being quite strong and he jumps quite big and im generally a wuss about jumping. Mum did attempt to video it but the battery died and im not sure if anything was caught on camera as it says 'file error' - am hoping it will show up on computer.
Anyway, was 3rd to go and went in quite nervous as usual but i had a ball - i really did thoroughly enjoy it despite having to whoa and pull back frequently - and i didnt panic or get scared at him going fast and i was even smiling and going whoa - so a big achievement!
Got a double clear again although he tapped number 7 - my fault - and i also drew the prize!! ;D I got a handmade plaque thing to hang on your wall. Plus more sweets and a rosette. I only picked the lucky rosette because it was blue and white and i liked the colour of it lol!
So had a great time although we werent leaving till 10pm! I had a bit of a practice of my round the worlds and half scissors as well whilst we were waiting around so that was a bit of craic too lol!
Few pics and a pretty boring video to follow!
Winegums for all who reads!
