We are hacking over to Equine Hospital this morning for Barney's vaccination. Vet okayed it, it's only half an hour away. I also asked the vet about riding tomorrow as I was always told they need a rest day afterwards. She said it depends on the horse and some are absolutely fine to ride. What does everyone do? I would be cautious with Pete but Barney is a stoic old thing he might feel rough and you would never know!

I think it def depends on the horse. Aj and Tordi have had theirs recently and my vet said it was fine to ride and they were both fine. My friend's horse however doesn't react well, develops "man flu" and needs 3 days off his dressage training!

Faith's never really 'in work' so I wouldn't really be able to say if she's any different after a vaccination, however, because of the distract-quick-stab-run-away-before-she-notices technique we have to use, she often gets a swollen lump where the needle's been which seems to be full of the vaccination fluid...it goes down after a day or two though (we're just careful not to knock it)

Wow, thats really lucky being so close to an equine hospital!
I think we left ours for a day - it was to make sure they didnt sweat when being ridden.

I believe its the sweating bit that causes problems but remember talking to my vet about it some time ago and he said the jabs were that advanced these days that the old blanket 'must rest them for three days to a week' after is usually unnecessary but would depend on the reaction of an individual horse. Mine has no reaction and I work him as normal, just do a slow hack the day after.

I ride Debbie straight after vaccinations, just do a steady hack for a couple of hours, don't let her get sweated up, vets have always ok'd this.

My vet said fine to ride as long as they don't get sweated up - though not sure the reason for this. Though some horses may feel a little off for a few days.
