He has never done it before. Washed it and slathered with sudocrem. Any other tips? Weirdhe did it in the field.

Ouch poor Pete. I've not had a horse that over reaches before but sounds like you did the right thing. Is he due shoeing? I *think* this can sometimes be a cause if he doesn't normally do it. Or he could have just had a moment of over exuberance and caught himself.

Has he been newly shod? Might be an idea to turn him out with cloche boots on for a few days after he has new shoes - I really like the cheap soft neoprene-ish ones from Decathlon.
