My daughter (13) is really down after her dressage competition on Sunday. She wasn't placed and this is the first time in any competition that she has failed to come home with a ribbon. It had to happen some time and is character forming (she hates me when I tell her that!) It's a salutory tale actually: she lost the points for being sloppy about corners etc and not getting enough incurvation (does that word exist in English? ) and that's why she's cross with herself because it was easy stuff. Still she got 62 % which wasn't that bad. The rest of the teenagers we took up there did brilliantly at their higher level. They were all well placed. Also, the test was being used as part of their Galop 7 exam (instructor level). They all passed - three of them with honours! Caramba, was I glad I was just the taxi driver and not riding against that lot! (I also had a crashing hangover after a big work week then too much partying on Saturday night. Will I ever learn?)

thats a shame but it happens to the best and its normally due to the simple things that you take for granted and maybe dont concentrate so much on
i did my galop 7 all in one day at the ponbyclub though my horse was confused as to why she was at a comp but there was no rossettes or prizes

One thing i will say, if all her friends did well then yes its going to make her feel a little down.
However, 62% is a really good result (better than my second attempt at a novice test, where i got 50% - naughty pony!) And my aim is to get a score above 60%

when you win all the time (ok ok so I am NOT talking dfrom personal experience! ), its easy to become laid back about the little things and just think you can breeze through....this may actually help your daughter to do her best ever test next time!

agreed with ceej!
take it from someone else's point of view, if you only get placed a few times a year it really makes u appriciate it! 62% is fantastic, and if she had fun doing it thats all that counts! x

Your daughter is obviously very talented and its probably good for her not to take it for granted that she will be placed. But its horrible when all your friends do well and you don't. And its hard when you know its your own fault. As Ceej says she'll probably do a knockout test the next time. I think it must be so hard to be a mum!

Oh racaille I know what you are going through as I have a 13 year old daughter. One small blip and they think the whole world is against them. It's a hard lesson to learn especially when her mates did so well. But there are other shows and she'll hopefully move on and work on the comments made by the judge and then produce an awesome test next time
