Took Eddie to our first show yesterday. Had a brilliant day and was so pleased with her. After a very early start we hacked down to my instructors yard as some girls from there were taking us. They had said we were leaving at just before 8 so we arrived at 7.30. Didn’t leave until nearly 9!! Eddie just stood chilled on the yard the whole time. Finally loaded up and arrived in a panic as our class was starting any minute. So threw her tack on, went up to the ring and managed to have a quick walk and trot about before the judge came in. First class was riding club pony. She was very well behaved. A bit strong which is usual but her individual show was lovely. Unfortunately we also had to jump which I wasn’t expecting – a small x-country fence downhill and a small show jump. She put in a huge jump at both and I got left behind. We also had to pick up a cup from a pole and put it on another – no problem. We came a respectable 4th out of 6 in that class. I was so pleased with her. Judges comments were that she was a lovely pony, our turnout was perfect – except in my rush I had forgotten to put my hairnet on – she just looked a bit strong at times and her jump wasn’t as ‘fluid’ as others lol
We then had a long wait for the afternoon classes and she just stood chilled on the lorry the whole time as if she did this every day – our companions were playing up and misbehaving so for once we put everybody else to shame! Everyone kept saying how lovely she was and calm she was being.
Next up was the ridden cob class. Wasn’t sure what to expect as she’s not a traditional show cob but there was no M&M class. So went in and there was only me and a stunning hogged trimmed coloured cob in the ring! We started to do our show and once again she was really good until our second canter – realised we had no breaks so had to do an impromptu gallop and pretend we meant to do it!! Then three others came in who had been in a different class running late. So waited while they did their show. Eddie stood very patiently and we ended up 3rd. So again was really pleased with her. The judge said ‘she’s nippy isn’t she’!
So that was it. We were going to do the prettiest mare but everyone was tired and ready to go by then so we called it a day. Got some lovely photos.
Was sooo pleased with her. Was expecting her to be very excited but she took it all in her stride. Love my little pony.
