I try to go once a week now on my own and managed to go again today. Felt a bit sick 'cos he had three days off! He was brilliant though, had to go past a lorry with a small earth remover on it. Flashing orange lights the works! He didn't spook at all! So good, bless him. We were out about an hour, lovely relaxing and calm. Total therapy!

Thats great Does Pete enjoy his solo hacks? Most of the time I love the quietness and peace at being able to go out alone.

He is on edge to start with, but ok once we get going. I sang to him last week which had jis ears flicking back to me. He always calls to Barney when we get near to home.

Brilliant, glad your confidence keeps on rising up.
I hacked out Brave yesterday, which I had been worried about doing as he has been whizzing around teh countryside with H having fun and I like it a bit more sedate...and he was a star had a canter behind Chompy and usually it feels like you have no brakes but yeserday he went into canter and then I felt him ask if he could go a bit faster and he was utterly responsive.
Such a good feeling

A weekly solo hack is a great idea. I much prefer to hack in company- like to gossip!!! but I must start doing more solo stuff as I think its good for the horse.

Yes, I agree, it is good to mix and match it. I don't mind going alone and Ben doesn't seem to mind either but he does seem braver when we are in company, he tends to show off a bit and "lead the way" if there is anything a bit "worrisome" whereas on our own he has a tendency to spook and have to be pushed forward. I like my new yard for that reason alone, more people to hack out with and always a lot to laugh about..

I did my first solo hack on Brave since October/November last night. Dont get me wrong he has been out on his own but just not with me on board.
He decided to test me at our new fence by being a prat and spooking wanting to turn for home and when I wouldn't let him do that reversed into the ditch beside the road (twice the numpty) when I finally got exasperated with him and literally said "oh for petes sake, stop being such a prat" he walked past it calm as anything... So pleased we hardly have any traffic!
went out again in company this morning and he had a bit of a prat about when we got to the conemarra stud that is up the road and their ponies were flying around the fields on either side of the road at the site of Brave and Chompy - he stopped dead fron a trot and I ended up eating his mane as my stomache muscles arent there yet to allow me to snap back up. but went past and then back again with him only growing to about 15.2hh rather than the 18hh he was at the last time I took him past... LOL
