There are tonnes of reasons why I love our new yard, but yesterday I found a new one...
...we can hack out bareback and not die!!!
We've been having issues with tacking up: nothing to do with the saddle or with me, it seems Faith has decided she doesn't like her girth OR she's made a very complex association between tacking up and getting scared (long story). Either way we've been having issues. Hence the bareback riding .
We went out in-hand the other day after about a week of no work and Faith was awesome! Wound up like a spring, but she was awesome! We went for a wander round the XC course and popped over a few logs. The aim was to walk over them (she has issues with being a wuss too ) but Faith boinged, so we boinged over all the log jumps! She was brilliant. She still wants to have a go at the U-shaped hedge jump though...maybe another day when I know she won't stop and let me jump on my own!!!
Anyway, we went out last night for the first time with me onboard in a week or so, and she was fab then too. I didn't bring her in from the field until 8.10pm, put her bridle on and then left the yard about 8.30pm, had a little wander around the nearest XC field, paddled through the water jump ( and then had a tiny trot back up the hill so that we didn't get caught out in the dark! Arrived back around 9.15ish feeling like proper rebels because we would have been eaten alive at our old yard! Old YO would have had our heads on a stick for being so late, but our new home is so chilled out and we love it .
So why do we love the countryside? Because we can do what we do and not risk being squished by a bus .
