Well madam has well and truly redeemed herself this week after last weekends disasters. Not done a great deal due to time but managed a couple of short schooling sessions in the field and she was really switched on and paying attention so was looking forward to my lesson today.
My little pony just gets better and better. She is now working pretty consistantly in an outline and Joanne decided its time to step up our lateral work. So today we worked on shoulder in which she got the hang of pretty quick. We were leg yielding across the school away from the track and doing what I termed the drunken walk - a couple of steps leg yielding one direction into the school then a couple back out, in and out up the long side. It seems the more you ask of Eddie, the harder she will work and the better she goes.
We then worked on our canter. We've not done much canter work recently due to the ground being so dry so we were back to a bit of 'wall of death' though I was able to collect her and send her forwards but she then gets excited and becomes unbalanced and in turn I tense up and it becomes a bit of a pulling battle. So we are going to focus on this next time. She is vastly improved and wheras before one canter and her brain was overboard she we will now settle back quickly but we need to rein in some of her 'enthusiasm' ;D
I also need to strengthen my left leg - I can feel the difference so much between the two and have a bad habit of compenasting more with the left rein which of course spoils the exercise we are performing. Any tips to strengthen it?
Also my other fault of themoment is that when asking for lateral work I tend to 'brace' the opposite leg rather than just opening my thigh - any tips to avoid this or is it just something I have to remind myself of?
But was really pleased overall. Taking her to the hunter trials pony party tomorrow for a mooch around. Don't think we're jumping but will be good for her to go mingle.
