Yup, the first rando of my season in on Sunday. Paco is still a tiny bit porky but he's been working regularly and is slimmer and much fitter. I decided that if I waited for him to regain his former svelte shape I could wait a very long time and that I'd better just get on with it. The rando will be a hard one however, through the monts de Vaucluse, around Fontaine de Vaucluse, a weird and wonderful place where a river gushes up from underground through a large sump hole. No one - not even the legendary Jacques Cousteau - has ever been able to find out how deep this hole is and the river that comes out of it is always a chilly 13C. Odd place but fascinating. I've been doing quite of bit of hill climbing with P so he won't be taken by surprise - and some loading, which he does like a lamb when the trailer is parked in the garden. It's as soon as it's down the lane and his boots go on that he knows it's for real .... Wish us luck.

Good luck! Sounds like a great way to spend a Sunday, how long will you be riding for? Hope your saddle is comfy.

Hi Sol - we'll be out all day, with a couple of hours for lunch and rosé (natch). Probably not do more that 35Km though, it being mountainous. The departure is at 9am which means I have to be loading at 7am when it's just getting light.... grroooooo. Should take me about an hour to drive there so that should leave me half an hour to tack up (assuming his majesty only takes half an hour to load). There a little competition pony at the teenager's club who joins her lessons - he just steps straight into his single trailer (how I hate them) and loads himself in 30 seconds every time. Envy, envy ......

Good Luck - I hope and am sure that you will have a wonderful time. I would love to be going off on an adventure like that. I mean 38km up the mountains is a bit of an adventure - its not a hack. A bit of danger/excitmentment/challenge is good. Can't wait to hear all - photos would be good as well.

Have a great time, Rac, you are going to have to come and do some of this in the mountains here.
