OUCH! that is bad
to be honest at that price it would be more economic to buy the bags of horsehage - the blue one is suitable for laminitics and its dust free,
I think they are are £6 a bag

Bloomin' heck. Ours was £2.50 a bale for ages then went up to £3 a couple of months ago. Now we've moved though we use the hay that is grown on the farm so it's all included in our livery.

At the other end of the scale the 175 bales I had delivered before christmas cost just under £700 which works out at about £4.50 each.
Its definately cheaper to bulk buy but you have to be able to store it.
Jack with your big lads you must get through it reall quickly! I know with my three in the snow they were going through nearly 2 small bales a day between them. Now the grass is showing again they are back down to 1/2 - 2/3 bale between them.

I hate to say it but ours is £50 for 15 small bales and £15 a large bale. Using a small bale a day it's not too bad

Here is the Horsehage website... www.horsehage.co.uk/aboutHH.html most feed merchants stock it, and I have used it a few times when hay has run out or for camp or I want to feed haylage rather than hay when they have been on box rest. I only tend to use in emergencies as it has been more expensive thatn hay, but the way yours is going you would be cheaper and you cna garuntee the quality and no COPD issues. Probably shop around for it as the efeed site was quoting £7.50 a bag but I am sure when I last bought some it was about £6. Get down to your local feed merchants, as those that deliver are usually more expensive anyway.

Thanks Fi, he is coughing quite a bit on the hay from the yard only £6! so thought at least it would be better quality. May well get some tomorrow and mix it a bit, what do you think?

sounds like a plan - when I get it I use the blue one which is suitable for laminitics as it has a low sugar content due to the type of grass. You can always buy one or two bags an see how you get on

Thanks, I should have asked you first! Pete loves haylage so I am sure he will like it. Any problems with it making them more lively? I will go for the blue one.

wow that is steep.
Haven't bought small bales for quite some time but only pay £20 for big ones (which my supplier claims are equal to 12 small bales...I always feel they go further than 12 small ones would though) but he says sometimes they open big bales and run them through the small baler at end of winter as more profit in little bales and they get 12 per bale!

cheapest place for horsehage up here is Pets at home! 6.39 a bag!
It should not make him any more lively but you may have to feed more as it has a much higher water content. If he has been coughing though it will beat hay hands down.
