Hi folks, knew it would'nt be long before I needed your help. Our horses have been wormed regularly where we are, but have to be wormed again at new yard and it has been left to us to do it. Which one? Do I need to check wiith current yard what program they have been on or can I just go for a broad spectrum wormer. I know ours have had the tape worm treatment either last time or the rime before, HELP!

You can get Panacur a 5 day wormer (i think - correct me anyone if im wrong) that people use a lot when moving horses to a new place. I would check with the the new yard to see if they specify anything in particular. To make it easier, your vet can do you up a programme. Or you could even try targeted worming (poo samples and then worming when necessary). Although it mightnt work out much different if all the others are wormed at intervals and you are the only one on targeted worming - you would need to read up about this, as im not entirely sure. Start keeping a record of when you worm and what you use in a diary - you will need all this organisation now you are on DIY!

Sol this site is really good, I tend to use it as a reminder for what to do when www.wormers-direct.co.uk/calendar.htmlThey also sell the wormers cheaper than saddlery prices and speedy delivery too. Maybe check with the yard if they have a worming programme in place. If not, I would go for one of the broad spectrum wormers - either the 5 day Panacur as Flea mentioned or the Equest Pramox does the same in a single syringe.

If you have been worming your boy on a regular basis he should not need the 5 day program- just give him what you would normally give him - or whatever he was due to get next.
many yards will insist on it if you cannot provide evidence that you have followed a regular worm control program but unless she insists I wouldn't - no point putting chemicals into him you don't need to.
Gives me an idea for a post mind you.
