I fear I may have been down this road before but here we go...
I'm in need of a grazing muzzle for Faith. For the past year or so we've been managing her lami by keeping her in when the grass is lush or frosty, and then limiting her turnout time as far as is fair but now we're moving to another yard with a 42 acre summer turnout field, I'm thinking we'll need more help than just limiting her turnout! Besides, she needs to be moving around outside to keep her legs loose and sound, and she gets miserable if she has to be kept in for more than a day or two.
So my question is: which muzzle is best? We've tried the Shires and it was rubbish - we had two sizes: one rubbed her raw, the other fell off her face! I think she'd get a Greenguard off in a second, and I think a flower pot/bucket muzzle (the ones that look kind of like a flower pot!) are a bit cruel.
We're looking at Best Friend muzzles but because she's got a big head but dainty nose I'm a bit unsure of sizing...to fit her length she'd have a LARGE HORSE but to fit her nose she'd need the size or two below - would she be able to get off a muzzle that is too loose around the nose but is held up to her face with the straps? Best Friend recommend their Standard muzzle ( www.grazingmuzzles.co.uk/standard.htm - attaches to a breakaway halter) for horses with big heads and small noses...would that be a better option?
And if the standard attachment is better than the deluxe ( www.grazingmuzzles.co.uk/ - all in one) then are there any breakaway halters that are better than others?
Argh - this muzzle business is hard work! She's going to love that massive field though ;D
Any help much appreciated
