I would really like to show AJ this summer (if he'll go in the box and if my nerves stay under control) but haven't done any for years. Can anyone enlighten me with regards what we both wear for in-hand and under saddle and what to "trim". Although I know that he should be shown unplaited what do I do with the top of his tail? It looks a bit of a mess - should I pull it or just thin it a bit or leave it alone? Help! Zx

Try washing it and whilst it's still wet bandage the tail. Warning: don't leave it on for a long time ie over 2 hours as you might cause the hair to fall out if it's bandaged firmly. Try it a few times to try and tame the top of the tail. Failing that you could sneak a few hairs out that are straggly just to tidy it then bandage. Most people that show natural do a little bit of tidying and use make up etc.
