Poor ole Pete, he has lost his Mojo now! Coughs on any exertion, coughed after a roll this morning! I rode him last Saturday and he was full of beans, rode him Sunday and I really had to get after him to trot, not like him at all. So I gave him a week off to see if he was just fatigued, not fit etc, got on him yesterday and same again. No energy and coughs as soon as we tried to go faster. Vet coming at 1pm, anyone else dealt with this?

Faith seems to have a bit of a cough and a slightly runny nose on occasion...it doesn't seem to have any pattern to it though . When she coughs she sounds quite chesty. Depending what your vet says, it might be yet another vet visit for us for some antibiotics or something. Fingers crossed it's nothing bad

It might be the flu Sol as the symptoms sound very similiar to an outbreak of flu at my last yard. It cleared up very easily with medication but it wasn't the usual flu vaccinated against. Nearly all the horses got it but those who hadn't been vaccinated got it much worse. I hope Pete is better soon, I know how worrying these things are.

Any news Sol. Hopefully he's just feeling it after being in for a while and a bit sluggish and unfit. Best to get a cough looked at sooner rather than later though.

Vet thought it was a strange cough! Not lungs thank goodness, more like a head cold. Anti biotics for five days and a herbal decongestant. We are going to steam him with olbas oil too. What a relief. Vet said stress could bring it on.

Ah good, at least you know what it is and you have the medication to treat it..horses do get head colds, might be the changeable weather you have had down south. Sometimes mild and sometimes cold. Poor Pete - but thank God it isn't COPD. Get well soon fella....

I have steamed him before, he doesn't mind it too much. Hot water in a bucket with Olbas oil. I then drape a towel over his nose gradually getting the bucket closer. Barney really likes Olbas!

Man flu indeed. Another way to steam is to get one of those recycle bags sold in supermarkets now, cotton canvas or hessian, then put some hay in the bottom pressed down, sprinkle some olbas oil on and boiling water, which drains through, then place top round nose so the steam cannot escape and the horse has to breath it in.

poor pete - man flu is very very serious -he should take to his bed forthwith and be pandered to all day and night if required.
