At flippin last the landscape is more green than white! ;D and my automatic waterer defrosted yesterday so no more lugging buckets, for a bit anyhows! Will be a few days before I can ride again as ground is solid still and all the tracks are deadly as the ice is so compacted but it's almost like spring today (well it's foggy and miserable but positively tropical at about 4/5 degrees above) so with a bit of luck if the warm holds it will melt by the weekend and I can ride at last First time in weeks horses haven't had big rugs with necks on during day...that means I will have to groom them tonight though doesn't it Never thought I'd be saying this but well snow/ice does have advanatges in the fact it's clean...

That is the one joy of it. Our yard now resembles something of a swamp! Because the ground is still so hard and cold it's just not seeping away quick enough. It'll be mud fever next...... It is nice to get the rugs off again. All were naked last night and today only Eddies wearing a rainsheet. Nearly left it off but it's a very damp fog out there. They can walk normally again without ice balls in their feet. And best of all, tomorrow I can go for a nice long steady ride.

Faith came in BROWN last night!!! It took ages this morning to groom most of the mud off her, and she still wasn't clean/dry enough to ride...ah well, another day lol.

Finally they have grass again and I am not having to put hay out the field - however the gateway is a sloping ice rink and I slipped over this morning (much to OH horror) but all OK so now I stagger up the gate call the horses and they put themseleves away in thier appropriate boxes I shut the gate and shut their doors.
Taking H and Brave to an indoor unaffiliated derby with a mix of XC/rustic and SJ fences tomorrow as can finally get out again will get OH to drive the trailer off the yard (down slope still covered in 2" of solid ice) before we load him (will load on the road) - its the first time Brave has been to a competition since July but the first class is 55cm and as H has been jumping him over 1m at home this is purely for confidence with a different type of fence they will be fine, if all goes well with do the 55cm, skip the 65cm and do the 75cm and 85cm with him... I will catch it all on video so will show you how it goes warts and all!

It's great to see the back of this cold snap (although I feel we may get another.... ) But it's a pain to have to start from scratch re fitness (with the exception perhaps of you Fi) I bet you'll have to begin again Haffy as you also seem not to have been able to do much for ages. I was finally able to lunge P yesterday and boy, did he wobble round !

I think they think they are retired Rac! Am going to walk up the lane later and see if it's safe to venture out over weekend.
