does anybody have a voidance tactics that come into place whenever sopmething needs doing? i have an assignment in for this week (tuesday i think) and sat down to do it when i woke up today (about 1.30ish) and so far i have cleaned the communal kitchen, tidied my room, eaten a full box of cadbury milk tray, sorted my washing out, re-organised my diary, read every post from the last 24hours on facebook, caught up on here, written 3 lists of what needs doing for this assignment, sorted out my itunes, played the smurfs village ion my ipod, organised my folder, been for a walk so that i can say i have seen outside my room/kitchen etc, told everybody several times that i am doing work. oh and i have done a whole brainstorm - the only thing that i can hand to the lecturer for my assignment :/ i wouldnt mind but the assignment isnt even about horses and is extremely boring i will finish it at some point. maybe...

I remember a comedian saying that most of the people watching Songs Of Praise on Sunday night were kids avoiding doing their homework!

My lecturer was saying recently that a typical students' room is never as tidy as just before an exam/assignment is due in! In behavioural terms it's known as Displacement Behaviour, i.e. performing simple, well-known, easy-to-do behaviours instead of dealing with what is currently happening. In horses a common displacement behaviour when spooked by something in the distance is to stand still then plunge down to eat grass (not dealing with the spooky thing, instead coping with the situation by controlling a known behaviour, eating!). In humans it is all too common to clean, organise, play games etc instead of doing what we should be doing. I am terrible at procrastination and have developed a method of knowingly doing all of my distractions first so that eventually I run out of things that are more exciting than my work, and I end up doing my work. Granted, that's probably not the best method, but it seems to work...I soon get the urge to do work instead of being dead bored. I also try to break my work down into tiny bits so that if I do a little bit every day, and stop doing it before I get bored/annoyed with it, then it's always a non-negative experience (you can't say most assignments are positive experiences!) and I don't seem to put it off for too long because I don't seem to resent it as much. Maybe I'm odd but you're definitely not strange for procrastinating over a uni assignment!!!

A famous kids writer once said to me that the time you spend staring into space, picking your nose and scratching your bum is the best time to think about doing work. I do just that . I have a history essay due in at the end of the week and psychology work due in tomorrow that I just can't get motivated to do. It will get done eventually just not right now. I find cleaning a bit weird though, I don't do that when i'm really really bored, only when i'm ill

i do that!! lol! theres always a nagging feeling though that you should be doing it when you aren't.... Havent been at school today and havent done a pick of work for it - have written my xmas cards though - true procrastination activity ;D I was actually doing work there though, im trying to organise myself for revising history. once i get it organised tho it should be easy to do, just have to keep myself motivated! lol!

that man misses out on some serious stuff in his lectures then :/ a little like one of our lectureres here - it was a common occurance in breeding and genetics for someone to have to wake me up in the halfway break and then again at the end. his voice is soo monotonous and if he will insist on having the lights of in order to ensure everyone can see the smart board properly what does he expect from a nocturnal person the girls sat at the back used to have picnics in his lesson and he never realised once in the 6 months we had him for what was actually going on, it was brilliant, the best bit is the fact that i still managed to pass his unit on a distinction

Yea this guys voice is like that as well, kinda like steven gerrards voice but with a scottish accent rather than liverpudlian. About two minutes in and we just copy off the board and try (and fail) to stay awake. We mess around in psychology ALOT lols mainly talking about chickens and laughing about Jel Bras and at one girl who thought ALL Jewish people came from Jerusalem and only Jerusalem therefore the Holocaust didn't happen cos theres no such thing as a german/ austrian jew. Love college year 2
