Not sure but I'm getting more and more convinced that it is Lami. On saturday Faith came in with pinky-looking feet, slightly warm hooves and a reasonably strong digital pulse (at least that's what I think I could feel). We decided that if she was the same in the morning (bearing in mind this was a 5:55pm and we have to be of the yard at 6pm on a weekend) then we would call the vet. Sunday morning her feet looked a lot less pink and I couldn't feel a pulse like I could the night before, but her feet still felt a little bit warm and still a bit pink. She stayed in sunday and she felt almost better sunday pm, but she's been in again today and apparently my OH can feel a pulse again...even though she's not done anything much other than stand in her stable or be tied up quietly outside . My dad left her rug on this morning and now she's quite warm so OH is bathing her for me and will check her pulse again...hopefully its just up because she's hot (can that even happen?). I really don't know what to do for the best now. I think if OH can feel a pulse after the bath then I think I'm going to have to call the vet and go home from uni to sort her out...I could really do with staying but I can't just let her fight this without me...I need to be with her. I need her to get better Sorry if that's a bit rambly but I just don't know what to do. My heads all over the place. Help me please

Is she looking at all 'footy' when she walks? Are ther any other symptoms other than the pulse? She could have just bruised the foot - which I think could cause a stronger pulse or have an abcess coming up but she would normally (but not always) be very lame from an abcess. That said, if in any doubt with lami I would always treat as if it is, keep her in on a deep soft bed and get the vet to take a look - better to be safe than sorry and it won't harm her being in if its not lami. Fingers crossed for you.

Sorry, also if not already doing so, get your OH to soak her hay for at least 12 hours (24 is better) before feeding her. If it is the early stages of lami she needs a minimul sugar intake. Soaking it will rid a lot of the sugar.

Good luck Spotti. I hope Faith is ok. As Scatty say it is better to be safe than sorry so may be worth a vets visit.

Well apparently he couldn't feel a pulse after the bath, and apparently my sister couldn't feel one either when she checked about 5pm, except maybe slightly in her right hind (but she's never felt it before so I'm not sure whether to trust that or not). I'm going to get my dad to check her in the morning but not really sure what to do from there... I'm away at uni and everyone else at home is looking after Faith based on what I tell them, but currently I don't know what's the best thing to tell them because I'm not there to see it . Not sure what to do RE:the vet either... Faith seems fine in herself - barges out of her stable when you open the door, comes over for a bum scratch if you look like you're not busy, demands attention by being cute and wanting a cuddle. She's still looking square and is walking normally too (well, she's not walked much since she came in sat pm just in case). I thought she was resting one leg more than the other, but apparently she's doing it evenly for both feet . She's not showing any typical lami stances or pottery-ness, although she is being a bit iffy about picking up her right hind and her left fore. She looked a bit bruised on saturday and her feet had reddish/pink vein-like lines in them but according to people at home, this seems to have faded since then and is now only about 1cm across, instead of almost all the way across her hoof. (something I found odd is that I noticed she had the pinky bits last month when she was having her feet trimmed, but they were just on the inside of her hind feet...on saturday it seemed to have spread across the whole hoof . She hasn't been lame between then and now, which confuses me more! She's been in the school for 5 minutes this afternoon to stretch her legs and have a roll and apparently she bombed off, bucked, rolled, and then galloped some more! So she seems happy enough, but I don't want to push it and make her worse if this is something big... Hmmm....it would be so much easier if she could just talk to me and tell me what's up. I keep making plans and then re-thinking and changing them. Do you think I should get my dad to check her in the morning and if she still has a pulse then I'll tell him to keep her in and I'll call the vet out? OR should we check, if ok then turn out for a few hours and then recheck - if ok then great, if not then call the vet. What should I dooooooooooooo?

Hope it's not lami spotti but get the vet asap so you know either way and if it's the worst (and the grass has been growing like mad round me and your not too far away if she's been out a lot) she can start treatment and pain killers immediatly.

Oi you, stealing my post! But he's right, vet didn't think it looked like lami although I still don't know what caused it all...got my vet coming out on sunday to look at her and give a second opinion. But until then she's in on a deep bed and getting lots of fuss whenever we're around

Good news Spotti. I'm really pleased for you. It sounds like Faith has a huge number of slaves looking after her while you are at Uni ;D

Still no idea what has caused the odd bruising but vet is coming tomorrow so hopefully he can shed some light on it...this will be the 3rd person who has been to see her lol...2 vets and my farrier! She can't say that we don't do anything for her!!! She's been out in the field for a few hours yesterday and again this morning and *touchwood* seems no worse for wear. We're taking things slowly though and will follow vets advice on sunday if its any different than what we are already doing Yep, she's got quite a fan club these days: - me, my sis, my dad, my mum, my OH (hairyponylover), several of my sister's friends, my sisters boyfriend...we had a few of my uni friends regularly come down to the yard to help out when she was away at uni with me. So yeah, quite a few slaves...I mean fans But she deserves it - how could you not want to be a fan of this ------------------>

***UPDATE*** Vet's been today. It was lami. Only mild and only an inflammation of the laminae with slight tearing (hence odd bruising) and no rotation or sinking, but it was lami all the same. She also has mites, but Mr Vet Man has given us some shampoo (Saleeb I think it's called) that's green and smells like them old sherbet sweets - Dib Dabs - and it is actually made for dogs...but apparently that's the only thing he's found to work well, hence giving me some . Gotta love that man, he's been nothing but brilliant with us...even when faith bit him between thumb and finger and made his hand unusable for almost 10 days...bless him, our lovely Mr Vet Man . Faith is a bit of a porker at the mo so she's now on a strict diet and on restricted turnout until the 'dangerous grass' period has passed, but the good news is that she's starting work again Yay. Finally got her boots sorted out with the fleecy bits I added, and finally got the pads to go in the boots, finally got her mites looked at so we might finally actually get somewhere! Give us a few weeks time and we might be right back where we were this time last year...square pelvis'd, sleek, fit, in work and going half way around the world with my sister! Ha ha. Let's just hope we don't have to brave black ice this year!!

The first vet was one of Chris Green's people. My Vet (David Newton was on holiday all last week and Chris's practise were covering him. I'd heard both good and bad things about CG, particularly that a lot of his vets are newly qualified, and the one who came out to me seemed that way. Don't get me wrong, he was a nice guy and seemed to know his stuff, but you know when you try to elaborate on a question or add any extra details that may or may not help the diagnosis and the person you're talking to just sort of discards it all and goes with what they think anyway...well he did that, and left me feeling rather unsatisfied and still without really knowing what I should next . He didn't even tell me how I was to pay him! David on the other hand fitted me in the afternoon after he got back from holiday, came all the way from a client at Loxley (complete opposite end of the city) just to come and see us. He thoroughly examined her, showed me what he was looking for/found, listened to everything I had to say, and reassured me that I was right to think it was Lami and was right to get her looked at. Luckily no major damage has been done, but had we not acted on it when we did then it could have been much worse. He didn't mind me asking him all sorts of daft questions and getting his opinion on anything and everything, nor does he mind popping back in next week to drop off some more Mite shampoo while his car is in the garage. Can't recommend that man enough. He is fantastic .

I've only ever heard good reports re: mr Newton. i do use CG and have for 30yrs and I have always been happy however I always try and get him rather than the others although he does currently have 3 excellent vets with him. Was the guy you saw Polish? If so he is OK and very often right but lacks "bed side manner" shall we say! Glad to hear that Faith is doing OK Zx

I've seen CG in action and he is indeed a very good vet . He once had to TB-jab multiple highland cows (with big horns!) on his own...not a job I'd envy him for! Yeah I think the guy sounded polish, or something similar. I hope I didn't paint him out as being bad because he was very good at what he does, I'm just a stickler for my own 'people' and D has known Faith since I first got her, so he knows all her quirks and all her oddities, yet still he comes out to see us! Even when she tries her hardest to eat his hand or kick him in the face or basically just disrupt whatever he is trying to do (although she was extremely good for him yesterday...not so sure she'll be as good in a few weeks time when its vaccination booster time, but hey-ho!). I've still got CG's practice number so if ever we need to actually go to the vets instead of them coming to us, I might just give them a ring

sorry to hear it was lami spotti but at least you acted promptly and saved her a lot of pain by doing so.
CG was always my vet before we moved too. Very good himself but does use a lot of young foreign vets, I think sometimes some things can be lost in translation when they are actually speaking to you/advising plus younger people in general (hark at old woman!) have yet to learn people skills if you know what I mean.
Murphs description on his vac cert has a couple of interesting 'spellings' from one of his young foreign vets lol
Mind you some of them have been nice eye candy over the years...victor was my personal fave ;D
