Poppy has been coughing quite badly for the past few days, :(more during and immediately after excersize, but also if just standing about. she has no nasal discharge although she did have a white discharge a few days ago. She's not off her food and seems OK in herself. I think its probably an allergy of some type, but my question is: HAS ANYONE HAD ANY EXPERIENCE OF HERBAL REMEDIES FOR COPD? if so what did you use and did it work?

dont worry!
is she still herself or grumpy or lethargic? again, it sounds like a common cold as shes not off food, but chek theres no neck swelling if shes had a discharge, although many horses get this anyway if they get dust ect up their nose.
give it a few days and see if it improves, soak any hay and make sure feeds arent dusty and she isnt stabled for long periods in dusty stables, lots of carrots will make her feel better!! x

I would probably get the vet to take a look if its quite a bad cough for a few days now. As abi said make sure any hay is soaked (if eating it). The weather has been so changeable lately I think its affecting a lot.

She's still coughing, but no worse when excersized, in fact if anything she coughs less after a good canter or trot, she has no discharge, is not off her food and is not in any way lethargic or ill in any other way, it is purely a cough. She coughs 3 or 4 times in a row. and mouths as though she has coughed something into her mouth, she did cough over lolly's tail and it looked white.

Hooray! she hasn't coughed once today. Think she must be over whatever it was.

Have you tried Herbal Remedies 'Airways Plus'. Chief was very similar this year, coughing couple of times whilst being exercised and in and out of this stable. He's on rubber mats and has his hay soaked. I got the vet to check him over and he couldn't find anything wrong. He's now on 'Airways Plus' and though he does sometimes have the odd cough he's so much better. It's reasonably priced too so if it doesn't work for you then at least you won't have lost much. But I'd still get the vet out to check her over to be on the safe side.

Yes we started her on a low dose of Global Herbs Airways plus about 4 days ago, so maybe that has done the trick. The reason I wasn't sure it was an alergy is the fact she didn't have any problems breathing, not wheezing or anything. Thanks though

You'll need to increase the dosage slowly until it has the desired effect and then cut back till you get a happy medium. It works for Chief so he will def stay on this stuff.
There is a definate increase in horses suffering with breathing allergies and head shaking. It makes me wonder what we're actually breathing in.

Yes there does seem to be an increase. We are increasing the dose slowly, although it is so un-palletable that we have to disguise it with all sorts to get it down her.
