Was a fabulouly sunny day but quite cold when we arrived for the BHS Ayrshire trec Competition on Saturday.
There wer 20 competitors mostly doing new comers, I had elected to do both becaue I thought hta is what you did, I did it once before at Sandyfats in Glasgow under the Kelly Mark Winter sriies...
This was a different matter entirely...... first off you were in a huge open field rather than the rather nice restraints offered at the outside arena at Sandyflats for the control of paces - this time we had to stay within a track in the said huge field, we managed that but were far too fast so zero points for n/c and 9 points for open.....walk was too slow as I knew it would be 13 points and zero........then there was the opening and closing of gates from horseback....and then there was the brush jumps - Ben and I were rubbage at them.
But we did the low branches for both classes, the immobility the S bend - zero for rein back zero for led corridor but full marks for weaving.
The best thing was the maypole, you had to grab a sort of bungie line and ride a full circle holding it, it was great fun except we didn't manage it... but brilliant day, brilliant... ;D ;D ;D

Sounds like you had a great time. Have you any more planned? Do they do the indoor comps near you at all?

Sorry Flea and Fi no pics, I was on my own so no camera and there wasn't a photgrapher there I don't think, or if there was I didn't see them. Haffy - There is a training weekend at Inverness this coming weekend - not that you'd want to travel that far!!! But if you check out the BHS trec site they list all the bits and bobs that are happening.. The Kelly Marks series will be starting soon and i can recommend them. Huge fun and very well organised.

Sounds like great fun and good on you for getting out there! It is pretty much always the case that the horses go silly the first time they have to do the tests in an open field! But Ben will soon get used to it. So glad you like TREC - it's such fun, isn't it? I love the fact that anyone can do it on any horse. There just can't be (at my lowish level anyway ) any snobbery, so people just have a good laugh. In fact, it can be a great leveller . I remember one bloke on a big tb type who was a bit full of himself. It all went wrong for him under the 'low branches'. He took out the first, which whacked his horse on the bum sending it off like a starting pistol. Mr Up Himself came off over the horse's head, taking the bridle with him - don't ask me how! He was not so snooty to the youngsters on their sensible little rustic horses after that!
