Now that the silly mare is on working livery she has to be taught some facts of life so I took her out on a 'trotting' with two of the trainees this morning. She has this thing about traffic and will do anything to run away from it. We were on a lane which runs parallel to the railway when a car came towards us and kindly pulled over to let us past, but unfortunately revved the engine to pull away just a little too soon. The silly mare tried to spin and run away so I blocked her and she did the one thing that never ever entered my head as a possibility .... ... she jumped up the bank and onto the railway line OMG So there I was on a terrified horse on a railway line thinking THIS IS IT....! Luckily there are only 3/4 trains a day, but... later she threw a tantrum over a car near the club but small rears were small fry compared with the railway line. Hmmm, work to be done on this one, methinks!

Holy cr@p! That's scary stuff...would this horse, by any chance, happen to be the one owned by the one you call 'Barbie' The horse she's afraid to ride?

Phew...like Becca says don't know what to say apart from you were very lucky. I guess that's the thing with these beasties we love so much...expect the unexpected because if it can happen it will.

Yup Spotti, spot on! It's Barbie all right! And the problem is that she has been hacked out so little that the problem has got worse. She needs a firm hand now!! But with some work she'll make a nice horse. I was looking forward to taking Paco out this afternoon (the arena is underwater) but as soon as we were tacked up, the thunder and lightening started again. Could do nothing but untack, have a f*g to let off steam, then head to the supermarket for wine and crisps ..... well, what else is a girl to do on a filthy Friday night?

Went out again today, this time on the saintly Paco, with a trainee on the silly mare - and we stayed away from the railway line! She was silly though and among other things threw complete wobblies about a little white-painted bridge that was next to the lane - she wasn't even being asked to cross it! - and some large stones on the track, put there to stop cars going along it. Boy, did it point up what a gent Paco is when the silly mare (his paddock mate) turned in at the club and I asked him to keep going, all alone, as I wanted to go down and have a look at the river. And then we met four nags coming the other way that he knows vaguely (from where I trained) and although he called a bit, he was just 'nickel' as we say here - perfect!
