Well my horses are really testing my nerves right now. Got to the yard last night and Sancy was behaving rather oddly - she lay down in the mud (dry) she did this a couple of times, no other symptoms. Now she'd gone through a faze of doing this early winter, vet came and found nothing.
So I was hanging araound for a while bathing Eddie and they were coming in anyway so put her in the stable. She seemed fine for a while then started going down and classic colic syptoms - was looking at her belly, kicking, biting and generally looking very miserable.
Called the vet who arrived half hour later - by this point the waves of pain were coming more frequently and she was trying to go down constantly. She'd passed droppings so no blockage. Vet listened to her insides and they were gurgling OK. Heart rate and temperature OK but she had a lot of gas. So she gave her two injections, one a pain killer and the other basically an indegestion type thing. Within ten minutes of having these she was clearly more comfortable and stopped trying to go down. Finally left at 1 am this morning after cleaning my tack on a sun lounger in the stable next door!
She seems OK this morning if a little quiet - but she was picking at the grass. Very disgruntled that she wasn't allowed her breakfast or any hay (vets orders). YO is keeping an eye on her for me and will call if any problems.
So another lovely vets bill!!
