Sadly, JB has developed another one just his luck. But I was reading an article in Horse and Hound (an ancient one -as explained in my other thread, I get them a bit out of date). Anyway it was by Dr Derek Knottenbolt an expert in the field (and who will probably bring other memories to some of us on the forum a long time ) ANyway, hes very good and he seems to take them very very seriously. Unlike all my vets. SO I have cut the article out and will show it to them. Amazingly (well interesting to me anyway) - some horses seem to be completely immune to them and even if they grow them, they fall off (I did actually hear of that happening). He also says they are contagious but in all the years JB has been with his little herd, none of the others have got them so I gather they must all be immune. (Contagious by flies spreading them.) He also says there is some congenital suspectibility to them. Ok as a sufferer of the dreaded scaroids, I find all this interesting but I guess to the owners of the immune horses - not so much

Poor JB as long as they don't affect him at this time things to be glad about! Such a shame though cos there is enough to worry about isn't there?

The horse I rode a couple of years ago, Ryan, had one on his belly and they used the cream to get rid of it. Obviously, not having been to that stables for a while, I don't know the long term outcome but it seemed to have got rid of it at the time.

A couple of years ago Sancy got a lump on her ear. The vet took a sample and it came back as a sarcoid (well she gave it some name I don't recall but basically a sarcoid) I kept it covered to protect from flies and a couple of months later it just dissapeared - I don't know if it was a sarcoid or just a bite that had got infected - though there were three smaller lumps also growing in the same area which also dissapeared. Not had a problem before that or since again.

Scatty- that would tie in with what prof Knottenbolt holds ie some horses can deal with them - have natural immunity (pity they couldn't clone it). Kitkat- the cream is probably the Liverpool cream (I think invented by Prof Knottenbolt) and apparently it is very good. JB has re occuring scaroids- I have 3 surcigal removals so far and it is disappointing to see another one but so far they haven't been too bad - not awful bleeding open sores etc. I will be back to the vet soon for the mesotherapy and probably will ask the vet to remove it at the same time.

Lol it must be about the only thing Sancy does have an immunity too - if she can find a way to get sick or sorry, she will do it! Our newest injusry is a lovely skin scrape where she's been leaning on the post and rail fencing to reach the grass on the other side. Thankfully superficial but she has a nice bald patch!
