YAY!!! We have stubble fields again!!!
Not quite sure how long they are going to last before the winter barley goes back in again but I am making the most of them whilst they are here....
Took Chomps for a great gallop.
LOVIN' IT!!!

Me too, I think stubble fields are prob 50% of the reason why autumn is my fav season, can't beat the sound of the combine humming away on a Summers evening. We've got ours cut, will have it all winter too ;D Waiting for next doors to be cut though cos its three times as long!
I bet Brave was jealous! Compy getting the first gallop.

Taken Rosie out on the stubble fields and she really shifted bless her. 3 laps of the field and we're still going but nevermind, we both enjoyed it. I love stubble fields!!!!!!
Remember taking my friends 26 year old mare out on one and although she could only hack, in walk with a tiny bit of trot, she exploded (on the spot mind) but she went nuts and was really trying to get her legs to work!

It was really funny when they came to cut the barley here it drove right past thier field and Trav was watching it very closely as if to say "omg! what is that! I didn't see any of those in Essex" Poor towny pony.

We never get the stubble fields here, boo. But we do have some good gallop tracks on the bridle paths though. If they haven't all washed away with all this rain. Grrr.

We've had them for weeks and I've not been able to have a blast yet. Gutted. Fingers crossed they won't plough them up too soon. Got a good few weeks to go before we'll be galloping again.

I'm not quite sure why I haven't been into the giant fields - maybe I miss the teenager and R. But there are plenty of small ones that I love. I can ride some nice route through vineyards with stubble fields interspersed and we enjoy them. But with the heat I'm afraid P doesn't really want to go all out. He needs it to cool down a bit before he can shrug off his summer lethargy. PS please everyone make sure you walk the field first to make sure there are no rabbit holes ....

I'd rather have your heat Rac than any number of stubble fields But we do have a nice xc course that I have been up the last couple of afternoons, the YO has cut a track and it's great fun, cantering around it. But we DON'T jump, Ben and me....too chicken for that... Farmers in our part of the world won't let you go in their fields, stubble or otherwise, miserable lot!!

About 60% of the fields are cut now and I have been having a bit of fun with JB in them. He's getting having steady (touch wood). Its hard to do schooling (which he needs a whole lot more) when there is the lure of the stubble field. Its not only the cantering/galloping/speed/freedom, its the golden ground and the blue skies and the feeling of making the most of it before winter. The nearer fields to the yard aren't cut yet so I didn't do any stubble with Cori until yesterday. (I can't hack him through the village at the moment - he is very bad in traffic). But yesterday I boxed him over to visit a friend and the 2 of us found some stubble. It was funny really as we had done a good bit of road work and were walking up a lane and the horses were both plodding away as we were chatting and then we found the field and went in. Suddenly our two unenthused plods were transformed into dynamos of energy and power - and when we finished, they pranced up the lane and you could almost see the grins on their faces.

Sounds absolutely brilliant. So great to have your own transport. The horses definitely enjoy a blast don't they?

It was brilliant Sol, we did the same today only much much more. The fields lead into each other and there are loads of them with plenty of steep hills. Sadly, these particular fields don't lie fallow long. Do you have your own transport yet? I know a few folk have been buying trailers recently (and a lorry) - are you next?
