I finally got to the clear round jumping at the riding school tonight. I hadn't really been looking forward to it tbh for some reason. I had a disappointing lesson on Monday (not at RS, just a one off sort of thing) and was feeling a bit fed up really. But we set off anyway and arrived on time and in one piece despite me driving lol!.
Thankfully the course was up and there was people and cars in the car park so it was still on lol!
I decided to just do the 45 cm class as it didnt look pathetically tiny to me as there were 3 or 4 spreads in the course (7 jumps in all) and i felt that was challenging enough for me lol!
I had chosen D a 16.3hh dark bay gelding and he is a lovely big horse. I was told to go up and walk the course first and i went up and i planned out all where i was going to turn for my jumps etc. but of course that didnt really go to plan in the course, i cant ever remember looking for the markers that i had picked out lol!
We all got on in the yard and then walked up to the outdoor arena. I was really quite pleased with my warm up, i think it went better than the course, which makes a change, as usually in my lessons the warm up is a shambles and the course is usually much better!
I managed to get him going well in trot and doing good trot-halt-trot transitions and a nice fast trot every now and then to waken him up. Cantering wasnt as good, need a bit of practice at it but on the whole i was very pleased with it. Plus i got 3 good practice jumps.
I think it would have been good if I had been first to go - as it was, i was 4th to go so i had to stand around for a while outside waiting and he fell asleep, so it was hard to get him jizzed up again to jump the course.
The course went well i think, dad said i did good which is good praise because rest assured if there had been something i did wrong he would have pointed it out. The only two things he said was that i didnt 'gallop' around and i was leaning forward - this is a habit of mine, i tip forward when i get nervous. I mostly trotted round the course, cantered a few, so yes probs could have done with cantering on, but thats something to work on for future comps!
It was a big class, and at the end we all went into the arena (the clears and double clears) and we got our rosettes and a big bar of dairy milk (yum) - someone else was riding D after me so i didnt get to do the lap of honour lol!
In august theres going to be more comps, she said maybe working hunter instead of showjumping and theres going to be an end of season show! ooh will have to go to that!
All in all, glad i went as it was good craic and a bit of fun and i needed that.
Unfortunately no pics or vids as dad is a technophobe lol!
