Oh poor pete!!! I can't say that I've came across bites to the face but Murphy has had bit swollen bites around his tummy before (that look massive) but did eventually go away within a few days. I hope the others have more advice for you

I'm not sure what you can do to help the swellings but i would get a sponge and some fly spray and squirt a load onto the sponge and wipe it all over his face, or you could use gel alternatively. Hopefully that should help keep the flies away in future a bit. Obvious advice - im sure you have already been putting fly repellent on him anyway.

jack is a fly magnet i would advise a good fly mask i have also tryed som human anthisan cream on him as he has a couple of nasty ones in his girth area and they seem to be going down you could try a pot of bicarb in cold water and sponge him down with it make him feel good you can get bite cream from global herbs but i havent found it to do much good

Thanks folks. He wears a mask but gets it off sometimes. The flies are awful here. Really merciless. They were supposed to be out at night and in in the day this time of year. So much for promises.

rosie wont let me put any type of fly mask or fringe on! so she has 2 suffer. She didnt like her fly mask so tried a fringe instead....so she rubed the ones hat were over her eyes and middle of her head... Tried 2 put her mask back on today, was fine in the stable but as soon as she goes in the field she stands there shakes her head up and down lots and rubs her head on her leg, and just continues to do this, have tried 2 different types of fly mask but both the same reaction, as soon as u take it off straight to grazing!
She is a weird bean but earlier u could not see her head threw flies! but *touches wood* she has had no bites yet.
Plus fly spray really dont work, got one with deet in and sprayed it really close on her face (if u get me) 5mins later the flies were back so i give up competely!

A fly mask could be a good antidote instead of a grazing muzzle then, keep the waistline trim lol!
