Hi Kate, heat Kaolin tin by placing it in bowl of hot water- then spread thick on piece of brown paper, place on wound and pad and bandage into place. Nappies can be used as they draw out any wet, just put on dry and bandage but if using either of these I would tub the foot first in bowl of hot salt water for at least 20mins which will open and soften everything up so the poultices draw it better. Hope that helps- I can post you some animallintex if you need it Brig

There used to be an age old remedy of using bran - no idea how it works I'm afraid but you may be able to find on the internet somewhere.

Depends on whether the abscess is actually draining yet or not. If it's not then, as Brig says, heat will help it burst through. So a good soak in a bucket of epsom salts should help. If it is already draining then you could use nappies as already suggested. They work well but sometimes don't "draw" as much as you need (kind of depends how well it is draining ie how big the exit hole is). You could try to see if a chemist in your area sells pots of magnesium sulphate paste (usually used to draw out splinters). Put some on to some gamgee and it works almost identically to animallintex (but without the added benefit of heat).

Epson salts and glyerine make a great poultice - cotton wool or whatever and then equipwrap and silage tape (if on the hoof)

Good!! I guess! When fully drained, cornecresce (wrong spelling but you'll know what I mean) and some cotton wool pushed up with a nail. That's what I've been told (and being doing).
