Pete has two areas on his back legs near his fetlocks with small scabs on them. I thought they might be mud fever, but no amount of cream, washing or powdering seems to make any difference. What do you think? I am ashamed to say they have been there since I got him! Over a year.

sounds like it could be. For the last two summers after the jousters go home Murph (and last year Harry too) has suddenly got scabby legs...small circles but all over...first year had vet out and she likened it to rain scald but caused by all the dew and said she had seen a lot of cases of it. When it happened again at same time I became suspicious and think it's a bacteria the jousters must carry from their yard...
anyhows treating it (as per vets advice) rub neat hibiscrub onto affected areas and leave for 5/10 mins to let it work on bacteria....then wash off removing scabs wherever possible...dry well...suggested a hairdryer but no chance lol so second suggestion was kitchen roll for hygeine reasons. Once dry suggested using savlon (or similiar) on them and then some sudocreme over top as a barrier and this cleared them up after a couple of weeks

I was suprised Basil has got it a touch on one of his fetlocks, like above- probably the dew- I just use a good quality antibiotic cream which sorts it, rub it well in then pick away, keep protected as above.
