I am getting to quite like this football thing that is going on. Every time England play I get the roads to myself for lovely hacks like tonight. My friend and I were feeling a little low as our YO had her pony put to sleep yesterday. So we thought a quiet ride out was a good idea. Pete had been quite upset about the vet visits and all the obvious distress. He is sensitive, funny, two of them didn't really notice, but him and Lucy, the TB really worried.Anyway off we went a half an hour's walk to the railway line, a couple of gentle canters along it then through the foxglove woods back home. They both behaved perfectly and we felt refreshed and ready to get back to some kind of normality.

Sounds lovely! I often go for a plod out when I need some calm time - quite often I just walk all the way if I have a problem to sort out. And it's good to let P know there are no places where we 'always' canter.

Funny how a gentle hack can heal the world!!! Not long after my mum died I was riding a favourite horse in the training field. It was one of those lovely sunny late summer evenings and so peaceful. the horse recognised my sombre mood and we walked in the long grass, both of us at peace. Its something I shall remember and cherish forever.
