Had a brilliant lesson with Brave last night and finished it grinning from ear to ear.
For once Brave was on his best behaviour and we started with a bit of flatwork, for the first time ever we were able to soften the rein and ask him to independantly stay in balance, the utter lightness didn't last very long but he is finally learning to carry himself, without relying so much on me to hold him together.
then onto jumping and initially it was a grid of about 8 canter poles before they were gradually put up into jumps, finished with 5 jumps (2x cross poles and 3x straight bars) all getting bigger as we rode through the grid up to about 2'6". A month ago it 3 jumps in the grid was all he could cope with.
We also had 2 jumps on a related distance on the other side of the arena and for the 1st time ever I told my instructor that they felt quite small so she put them up for me with the last one a 2'6" oxer. Brave jumped them all brilliantly and I finished with a huge smile. I can't believe how much we have come on and how much confidence we have gained in the last month.
Cross country training on Friday - cant wait
