Or any synthetic saddles. Thoughts please on fitting comfort, use and purpose. That is if you want a dressage or jumping saddle, how good are they. I am asking 'cos I have a vsd straightish cut leather saddle that I have had some trouble with. It is ok now I think but am very off leather. If I want to do more jumping in particular, is it worth getting another saddle?
Funny i was the opposite lol! I wanted a leather saddle cos i could get them nice and shiny for competitions and shows - not that i ever went to any lol
I liked my Wintec saddle ok but then that was pretty much the only one ive had - i had one for princess and one for kieran. i had 2 sort of crappy fitting saddles for connie but not worth mentioning really.
I didnt have any problems with it for either flatwork or jumping but i have heard reports that it doesnt put you in the best position or something like that. I thought it was ok. Did the job.
I found the wintec to have a deeper seat than the thorowgood though as i sat in both at the saddlers. so i chose it cos i felt more secure.
I think FL had probs though?
However, the new range may be different or better or worse.
First thing to decide is whether to swap and get a new saddle more GP and then go to saddler and sit in different makes and see which you like best within your budget and Petes shape.
If you feel unbalanced or like you cant jump in your current saddle and you have decided you want to jump more then id probly change it.
I personally don't like wintecs for my own comfort, I find them rather hard and feel perched... however the British make, Thorowgood is excellent, really nice fit on horse and very comfortable for rider.
The Thorowgood Maxam saddle, very cheap would be worth buying just to get the feel, or find a stockist where a saddler will come out with a selection for you to try, usually a refundable deposit if you buy otherwise £35 to try all different ones on your horse.
Eddie has a Wintec Maxim. It's a really old style and is HORRIBLE!! P used to have the Cair (can't recall if that was Thoroughgood or Wintec) it was better, but oh I do long for a leather saddle. There is such a variety out there these days, try out a few styles and see what suits.
They can take the future that we'll never know, they can take the places that we said we would go, all the broken dreams, take everything, just take it away, but they can never have yesterday. Norton De Sancy 20/05/93 - 10/09/10 I'll miss you always beautiful girl Patrick Starfish 7/11/09 Run free handsome man
As the owner of oooooooooooh tooooooooo many saddles I find that ....... I LIKE R's Wintec. It is comfortable for me ( I like a deep seat and this is personal preference) and causes him no problems. The teenager likes it because the cleaning is easier!
If I can nit-pick, I don't like the stirrup 'leathers'. But I was even thinking of chopping in P's 'good' leather GP (Aigremont - dunno if it exists in the UK?) for a Wintec 2000. The Aigremont is nice for me but no longer fits P.
Do try a number of different saddles as some will suit you and Pete better than others regardless of leather/synthetic
Good advice from Fi.
Racaille - i hate those stirrup leathers you get with the wintecs. Is it just me or do they seem to crack easily or is it because the ones i have seen arent actually cleaned? Also they are not as supple and just dont really like them. For both of our wintecs we just used black leather stirrup leathers.
Have to say I had a pair of the shiney leather look wintec stirrup leathers... and I loved them, had them for 16 years and they still look like new, they have never cracked and just wipe clean. I don't use them now but they are still used at the trekking farm, passed them on when I got something different.
I had HUGE probs with Fires just didn't fit either of us. Swapped to an Ideal one and not regretted it one little bit. He lost 5cm of his girth since he first had it and the saddler adjusts it ever so easy. He said if it was foamed flocked, it would mean a change of saddle.
I am however riding T in Fires old one and getting on much better with it. I feel much more secure on it then I ever did with it on Fire. I think it def. has something to do with the shape of the horse. I did however feel really comfy on Tiggys Throughgood. Just a case of trying and seeing. Good Luck.
