Probably a silly question but here goes: When i canter outside of the arena/schooling in field i find myself in the forward seat automatically. Is it because im nervous? Should i be sitting up straight with bum in saddle Are you only supposed to go into forward seat when galloping? It feels more comfy and secure because i feel like its too bouncy if i sit up straight and feel like im getting left behind. Thoughts please what does everyone else do?

On rough ground I think a forward seat is best, keeps you balanced and if the horse trips easier for them to right themselves.

If I need to worry about being able to stop I sit up heels down. With no braking issues it is so comfy in forward seat, and nicer for the horse.

Flea I do exactly the same. As Sol, I only sit up and collect if I'm losing breaks. Otherwise I find it much more comfortable slightly forwards and off her back a touch to let her open out (and have a blast!!)

Same for me. it always feels such a different canter on a hack than in the school.

Yep. Eddie seems to bounce rather than be nice and collected on a hack. And her back legs feel like they've got rocket fuel in them!!

I do prefer it, but Fire has such a HUGE spook/ you never know when a rabbit/deer/pheasent is gonna jump out at you, I have to where I'm doing it. Stubbles best ;D
