We went out for a hack today in my lesson and I was on a new horse id never been on before.
We firstly went along a little forest track with massive XC jumps along it but thankfully didnt jump them, we just went around them.
We had some trots and canters. The horses were impeccably behaved, they were real angels. My horse B shook his head a bit but it was ok. I felt really quite secure on him cantering along going over the undulating ground and steering round some jumps albeit i was tense but the second canter i relaxed a bit and just let it happen.
We then did some roadwork. I had to keep trotting to catch up but B wasnt excitable or strong at all even though he is quite forward and responsive and wears a bubble bit. He listened and i always felt in control.
We did a good few long trots on the roads too. I had to check him a bit as he was starting to trot flat out to catch up but he didnt take a tantrum at being a bit away from the others or being steadied, i guess he was ok as long as he could see them.
I was pooped though with all the trotting and cantering. I dont think ive been on a fast hack like that before lol! They were all really good in the traffic there was loads but they didnt flinch and there was cyclists and dog walkers and lots of spooky things but they were great.
The only fast work we did on hacks at old RS was when we would have done a little trotting on the roads but not for as long or if we went to a lane, we would have rode down it a bit and then trotted or cantered up which was sometimes a bit scary as they anticipate it. Or we would have went into a field for a canter - again a bit hairy lol!
Never really did much fast work with own ponies either come to think of it...guess mum was always walking.
Anyway, that took up the hour and it was a great experience. ;D
I love lessons.
Oh yea, apparently last week they were out in the forest and got to jump some wee logs! cant believe i missed that
