BD I may well send him to you if he won't get along with the Arab! Unfortuanltey with how time has turned out I've only had time to ride him weekends. So last sat we tacked him up led him around a min then I jumped up and we went for a hack. Soon as I was on he was heading for the gate and he went straight out away from the others without so much as a glance back! He was really forward going, not spooky but really striding out. He did get a lil joggy and I tensed up, and he did a lil leap in the air, but then I let my arms go a bit like jelly and he was much better. I did think afterwards, would I tack Fire up and take him straight out for a hack having not been riden for 6 days?..... hmm noooo. Rode hm round the field Sun and Today, had our first real trot at home. He was great when he got going, but boy he was hard work to get going. Soon as I was on he was heading for the gate, "I wanna go for a hack please mum", then I turned him away from the gate *yawn* boring. He was planting himself a bit, dunno if anyone has any tips to get him going? He is quite hard to lunge too, you have to get really behind him to get him going. So there is a definate difference. Tomo I'll take him out to the jumpin field and try getting some trot round the flat area of it then take him on a hack, maybe that'll be more interesting for him. Just trying to set lil achievable goals each week. He is such a puppet to handle. When untacking him, you don't tie him up, he'll just stand there to be groomed. Loves fuss, I just wish he would be nice to my pony.

What about keeping changing direction if he is sluggish and planting a bit. Or if he stops and wont move, pull one rein out to the side to put him off balance and move, like you would if you were leading him.
Cant really help with the lunging as Princess was like that and we had to flick her with the end of it - although once she seen a jump she was much more willing lol!
I think its probably a good idea to maybe stay away from schooling for the minute as it wouldnt be good to make him think that being in an arena or field means boring. You can still school on hacks and if he enjoys them i think you would produce much better results by tricking him into working lol!
Perhaps after a while getting good results out hacking he will be better mannered automatically to ride in arena or field.
You could try long reining to see if he is any more responsive with that.
Glad you are getting on great with him! ;D
How are you going to get Fire back into work - should be interesting lol ;D
